So, there are those pushing for a Universal Background check, which already exists in CA, what do they think the solution is for this little problem?

With a few exceptions, all transfers of firearms have to go through a gun dealer. But there are cities which violate the law by adding additional requirements/restrictions which causes businesses to leave or close. CA had a preemption on firearm laws, meaning that cities can't have firearm laws.

So if the state requires firearms transfers go through a gun dealer and if a city makes it impossible to do business (look at the reduction of gun shops in the LA area), shouldn't the city or state be required to do the transfers so that people don't have to drive a long way to go to a gun shop outside of the city? Currently the cost of a private party transfer is a total of $35, but CA gets $25 and the gun shop, which does all the paperwork, only gets $10, which might not even be minimum wage.

Or is it just tough luck for those who live in San Francisco and they will just have to spend all the time and money to go outside the city in order to follow the state mandated law?

You could back it up with the SMOG laws. Some areas are deemed not acesable to SMOG stations and it is not required.

Yeah, that is true. As gun shops close, it is going to get worse.

Quite true.

I can only hope that some attorney decides to sue over this in the SF area, perhaps that would get a change. Look at Washington DC, only 1 FFL and he operates out of the police station. When he is gone, that is it for those who live there.
