    Parent Transfer

Well i know this is talked about a lot but confirming to make sure to be handed down a gift from parent to child can be 18 in state if parent was out of state then child has to be 21. Now wanted to know if the firearm has to be dros first to parent and if it does then is there waiting period to gift it to child thanks.

You will get a better answer if you provide more information.

First, is it a handgun or long gun? Are parent and child both CA residents or is one an out of state resident and another a CA resident?
Anyone can look around and see the damage to the state and country inflicted by bad politicians.

A vote is clearly much more dangerous than a gun.

Why advocate restrictions on one right (voting) without comparable restrictions on another (self defense) (or, why not say 'Be a U.S. citizen' as the requirement for CCW)?

A FFL cannot transfer a handgun to someone under 21, period. That means the parent has to buy it, DROS it, then after they get it after 10 day wait they can give it to the child under 21 and that child can use the OPLAW form to complete the transfer to themselves. Both people must have FSC.

        To recap:

Yes parent has to DROS it to themselves first
No waiting period to give it to child after the parent waits 10 days to pick it up.
It is illegal for the parent to give it to their child unless their child has FSC.

Does the parent already have the firearm? Or are they buying it?

Maybe i read this wrong, but youre proposing selling a firearm to an individual who has expressed their intention to then give that firearm to someone who cannot legally obtain it.... That screams straw purchase to me bud. Yes, i know its a dad getting it for their kid, but from my understanding, that kid is prevented from buying a firearm, and the dad is lying on the 4473 when he states he is the end purchaser. I would not take that risk

                    Read the 4473 instructions.

The person (child) can legally obtain it, just not buy it from a FFL.

A parent buying a firearm as a gift for their child is legal. The person doing the 4473 does not have to be the end purchaser, a gift is valid.

                      Thanks for clarifying

Thanks kemasa. It was sounding like you couldn't buy a gift for a son.
