    Kel-Tec Sub9

I bought the Kel-Tec gun just before the "assault weapon" ban went into effect. It really is no different from their Sub 2000 that they sell now except the Sub 9 was made out of more steel! I purchased a "bullet" button for the new Sub 2000 and with a minor modification to the button and drilling a hole in the receiver I was able to make it function perfectly. Now the question is, with the bullet button installed can I have it removed as an "assault" weapon and transfer it to my son?

Since it is not make/model banned, you can modify it so that it no longer has any prohibited features and then have it de-registered as an assault weapon.

In addition to installing a maglock + 10 round magazine, you will need to add stock spacers or install a muzzle device to meet the minimum overall length requirement of 30".

The Kel-Tec SUB-9 and SUB-2000 Gen 1 are too short (under 30"), so installing a maglock + 10 round magazine is not enough.

Also note that in order to de-register it, CA DOJ BOF may request pictures or request to inspect it, in order to ensure that it is no longer an assault weapon.

Thank you so much for your very information. I will see about tracking down some stock spacers or a muzzle brake.

I ordered a stock spacer today from Kel-Tec directly as they confirmed it will fit my weapon. I also sent a letter today to CADOJ asking if I can now transfer it to my son.
