    Records retention

If you are shutting down a FFL, lets say an 01, and moving into a new location with a FFL 07, I know i have to send my 4473s in.

    What about the state records?

I know DROS are 3 years, but if we are closing down the 01 license completely, what do i do with them?

HSC's and all that crap as well?

You must submit written notification of your CFD # and the effective date of the closure to:

    Department of Justice
Bureau of Firearms, Firearms Dealer Licensing
    P.O. Box 160467
    Sacramento, CA 94816-0467

You must retain completed DROS forms for three years from the date of sale, after which they may be destroyed. Contact Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) regarding federal requirements for closing a firearms business and documentation requirements per federal law.

^ Thank you. I saw that already.

I was mostly wondering about all the supporting records to the DROS. Any copies of ID/residency we made during the transaction.

Why not make it easy and keep the 01, unless you want to get rid of all the paperwork.

I suspect that the CA records depend on whether your company is closing or not. If it is still the same business, then I don't think it matters that you don't have the associated FFL as you still have the business.

Business is still open, just the location that it was conducted in is going. Our FFL under that location is closing. The ATF wants the O1 paper, so no issue with that.

No CFD any longer associated with the 01 either. To the state, its a non entity now.
