1 in 30 day Rule Question

I buy a gun from Gun Broker/individual (not FFL).
I buy a second gun from Gun Broker/FFL.

Does the 1 in 30 day rule still apply even if the first gun was from an individual?

Can I go ahead and buy the second gun now and just let my FFL hold it for the 30 day period (if he agrees)? In other words you don't have to wait 30 days to buy, correct? You just have to wait 30 days (31 days to be safe) before starting the second DROS.

In general do CA FFLs object to holding a second handgun for a few weeks?

Yes the 1 in 30 rule applies

Only PPT= face to face dose not

Ask "your" FFL if they mind storing multiple firearms for you because of the 1 in 30.
Here at Coyote Point Armory in Burlingame we don't mind or charge extra for this service but some shops do

      yes, the 1-in-30 applies.

the only time it does not apply for non-exempt people is if it is a CA-defined PPT (defined as a CA-seller and CA-buyer who both go to the same FFL to do the PPT transfer. if the seller is not a CA-resident, or the seller ships the firearm to the transfering dealer, it is not a PPT).

you can buy and store as many firearms at your FFL as he will allow. legally, he can only submit one non-PPT handgun DROS for you every 720 hours.

do they object? it depends. if your FFL is making some $$ on the transfer, he's probably willing to store the handgun a couple weeks, but you need to confirm with them. my FFL has had people that have had 5-10 handguns paid for sitting in storage with one being DROSed every 30-days.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Just to clarify, can I ppt a handgun at a FFL (both parties from CA) and the next week ppt another handgun, same conditions, different FFL?

Yes, as many PPT as you can afford, ten per day at a different FFL every day if you want.

Consignment technically works like a PPT, so you can buy as many as you want. Used or new doesn't matter. You cannot buy used or new from dealer inventory or via dealer transfer more than one every thirty days. You can buy PPT or consignment as often as you want. A consignment gun is not considered dealer inventory.
