    Assault weapon?

I am in the process of DROS a Whitney Wolverine that I bought at an auction out of state. The Whitney Wolverine was made in 1956-1957 and then the company failed. The dealer is concerned that it is an assault weapon because the gun is held together by a nut that threads onto the barrel (PC 30515(a)(4)(A). My reading is that because the threads will not accept a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer it does not fall within the prohibition created by this section. Olympic Arms makes an updated version of this design with a polymer frame, and it is also held together by a nut threaded onto the barrel.

Anyone have experience dealing with DOJ on a similar issue? Thanks

    Update to my post.
The dealers spoke with "Bob" at DOJ and they consider a Whitney Wolverine to be an assault weapon unless the nut is welded to the barrel.

Bob is one of the good inspectors IMO, if he said so I'd trust him.

Outside of the issues that may occur currently with it being at the FFL.

Since it is C&R(50+ years old) you could dros the frame disassembled if needed. Also since it's only a 10round magazine you could work out your own Bullet button for it which would eliminate any AW concerns. Looking at the modern manual, if it's made the same way a good gunsmith I think should be able to fabricate a new mag catch/release on the bottom of the frame that could incorporate a bullet button into the mag release.

It would cost $ but since the catch/release is attached via a pin you could make it reversible preserving collector's value.

Personally I wouldn't take possession of the barrel until you had the bullet button fitted to the frame.
