Consignment question **UPDATE**

Not 100% sure how to enter this into the consignment system and am asking here before I shoot an email off to Bob in the Am.

I had DOJ drop off 20+ guns that had been recovered from a now prohibited person. They delivered them with the understanding that the firearms would be sold on consignment and not returned to the owner.

Now I entered them in my bound book as received from DOJ. Now my question is does this need to be entered into the FDAS?

Ok so finaly got it figured out after talking to Robin.

Yes the guns need to be entered into the FDAS system even though I received them from DOJ. Because the owner although prohibited will be getting the money from the sale of the firearms it is considered a true consignment and thus needs signatures and thumb prints.

But they get entered into the bound book as from DOJ not from the owner.

It would be ironic if the DOJ are the ones that gave you a stolen firearm... I would think so though in terms of following the standard process. I had received a batch from local PD for a guy with a TRO. I was given the same schpeel about ensuring he wasn't getting them back. I put them into the system back then. It sucked as there were about 20 also.

I would say no, and here's why. you cant possibly fill out correctly all the customer information for a "consignment" in the FDAS. I would say to log them in your book from DOJ- Case Number XXXX, Agent Smith or so on. Again just my understanding of how to log it in. Consignment in the FDAS assumes that you will be at some point possibly returning these firearms to that customer should they not sell.

This brings up a good question regarding the roster and selling firearms that are off list and under a DOJ mandated consignment sale.

In my scenario the guy with the TRO was there so I was able to get all his information. He had a buddy he was transferring them all to. I don't think the PD ever considered what would need to happen if the buyer failed DROS.
