    FFL for gunsmithing

I have been doing my own gunsmithing for a little over a year now. If i start a side buisness ONLY building rifles not selling them what FFL license do i need?

I would only be building rifles no sales of rifles. I just need an FFL so the customers can ship me their rifles and i can preform the services then ship it back to them. Which type of FFL is this? Or would it be best to have a sales license from the start?

can someone explain the cost of both types of licenses and which is easier to get.

If the firearm belongs to the customer, then building it (adding parts) is not manufacturing, so an 01 FFL would be needed. There is some exemption for the CFD for a FFL who does only gunsmith work.
    Kemasa.

The 01 as Kemasa said would be all you need if never doing sales. The ease of getting ANY FFL will depend where you live. Visit the stickies in this forum. From an ATF/CA DOJ Standpoint it's just as easy to get an FFL01 or FFL07 as it is to get an FFL03. I'd assume the import and ammo ones are just as easy. The costs/difficulty are all related to where your operations will be and local laws, etc...
