    Address required on Military Orders?

    Hello,

Two weeks ago I special ordered (and paid for) a Remington 700 from Dick's. I got a call today saying that it has arrived at the store and I can come in to do the paperwork for pickup. When I arrived at the store and showed them my orders and ID, the lady said they could not accept my orders because the orders don't have an address of my duty station. I've ran a few searches and couldn't find a situation similar to mine.

My question is, do my PCS orders actually need to contain an address? I've used the same set of orders to buy two AR15 lowers at other vendors without any issues and have never received or have I seen a copy of orders containing a physical address of the duty station. This tells me the Lady wasn't trained properly or I bought the lowers Illegally.

    Thank you for your time.

I will have to look at some of the military orders I have copied at the shop when I get in today. I swear they all have the address of the base on them. I don't think I have ever seen orders that didn't specify where you were ordered to report too.

Of course we should also remember that the state of California lacks the authority to specify the required content of military orders.

All of my orders have defined the unit that I was being assigned to. Several of my orders did not contain a street address for the unit.

It is required that the PDS orders have you in California. I looked at some at the shop and they have the base listed, but my military guys come for the same base so I have limited experience dealing with other orders.

In my shop normally the orders are provided to allow them not to have California ID. Most of the guys live off base and will bring me a utility bill from their apartment or house also. The orders are not being used as a proof of residency, but as a proof they are eligible to use Military ID in the state of California to buy firearms.

Thank you for the updates. My orders have the duty station, but not a physical address ( Navy Region South West Security Detachment, San Diego, California). The lady at Dick's yesterday said a utility bill will not work as a supplement. She suggested that my command would just give me new orders with an address on them (Not even close to correct).

I'm going to drive back up there in a bit, probably will end up requesting a refund. The cost in gas going back and forth is quickly increasing the cost of this rifle.

I think she might be confused on what orders are used for. Good luck, I hope you get it all worked out.

I would say this lady at Dicks has little experience working the Military. Thinking that you could just walk in and have them change the wording on your orders so you can buy a gun is just silly.

PS. Should you decide to go to your command and ask them to change your orders please video tape it and send me copy, I could use a good laugh.

My thoughts exactly. No big deal, I'll just bring it up to the SECO at the department head meeting, hahaha. The first thing that comes to mind is a "Hitler gets angry" parody.

Just to give an update, I got everything squared away with Dick's.

I went back and got ahold of another guy that has helped me out in the past. They accepted my orders, but wrote the address of my Command on the top. On the 4473 in block 2, they had me put my home address here in california and my Command's address.

Waiting periods are new to me, so this weekend I learned that the waiting period starts after the background check is done, not when the firearm is purchased. I figured since I paid for it a few weeks ago, I'd be taking it home yesterday. I thought wrong, haha.
