FFL in CA That can handle DD (Destructive Device)?

    Hi,

I'm looking for a FFL in CA that can handle the transfer of a DD from out of state into CA.

Can anyone recommend one? Would prefer something in norcal, but I know my choices are probably limited.

Also, with a CA DD permit, I believe there is no 10 day wait, correct?

That is correct on the wait. I do not know any that have access to the DROS system.

ATF has in the past allowed non-DD FFLs to do an occasional DD transfer (something 1 or 2 for the life of the FFL) if there aren't any nearby DD FFLs able to do the transfer. they will have to pay double tax (2x $200) because the incoming Form 4 transfer wouldn't be tax exempt since they are not an SOT, but cheaper than spending the $3k for a DD SOT.

ATF doesn't normally publish a list of SOTs so that you can easily find one, but to be a DD dealer, the FFL type requires you to have an SOT so it is fairly easy to get a list of DD dealers and manufacturers. there are 31 DD SOTs in CA that I see, how many are CA dealers, I dunno.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Do you know of any FFLs that are willing to do this?

How should one approach an FFL to ask for this?

I think the bigger issue if finding one that knows how. You'll probably have better luck with the FFLs that already do NFA transfers since they will likely have a better idea how to file the appropriate forms.

Not sure if they can help you, but try Greg at Self Defense Firearms Training. They have a DD Permit - http://www.firearmstraining.com/witness.html

I found your old list here. Is it still up to date? Seems like some of the FFLs are gone or their contact info is out of date.
