What Happens If FSC Instructor Leaves

So I was thinking today, what happens if an FSC instructor quits or for whatever reason is no longer employed by the store they worked at and a customer comes back to the store for a reprint. How would that scenario work out since all accounts are tied to that particular FSC instructor now?

I suppose they would have to track down that FSC instructor or retake the test.

Now that you're required to have a COE before you can get the FSC instructor certification it's unlikely someone will just disappear completely.

Yea they could retake it but that sucks for the customer. Its a $25 test vs $5 reprint.

Or you can save the PDFs and not charge the customer for a re-print. DOJ doesn't agree to that approach, but there's nothing on a re-print that indicates it was a re-print. E.g., issue date does not change. They just charge you again for the privilege of printing again on your own paper.

I also save a copy for my customers. Have we ever heard a definite yes or no about this practice from DOJ. Last I heard they were dodging the question. I just had BOB in my shop last week and I totally forgot to ask him about this.

They told me I had to pay $5 and re-print, but could not tell me why if I had my own copy already. So for now I've ignored them. I do it so infrequently anyway I really don't know what PC would be broken. They were unable to tell me. I think their brain exploded when I asked why I had to pay again if I saved a copy the first time...

I'm Just going to keep saving them. It's my ink and paper and I don't get any of the $5 so I would rather just print for free.

Also, FSC instructors can leave, and often. People move out of state, quit, get fired, or whatever. I tell our customers to keep it in a safe place so they will not lose it. But the issue here is the customer made the mistake not the dealer. So if the customer is inconvenienced by having to pay and retake the test then that's on them. The .pdf idea is a good one though, have a folder for each instructor saved and just reprint if the instructor is still employed and available to sign it.

I don't understand the reasoning behind tying the FSC to each instructor instead of to the FFL. If you have an employee leave you can remove them from your FSC account for the shop but don't have access to the cards they issued. I fail to see how this protects anyone.

I really dislike this setup. I can't imagine how hard this has to be on the big shops who have more than a few instructors.

Right, we have 4 dudes here that do guns. All are FSC instructors and have no intentions that I know of about leaving. What about bass pro or turners who probably has employees that last a year or so before leaving!???? What a logistical nightmare. Plus "put on your tin foil hats" the state probably wants to make it difficult so they can collect more fees from the tests.
