Drop rifle off to be cerakoted while in DROS?

I actually do not know the answer to this but can we drop of a rifle at a local FFL to be cerakoted while it is in DROS?

Wouldn't a CA DOJ auditor wonder where the firearm is during the 10 day wait?

I was honestly baffled, I couldn't answer the question honestly but my instincts said no.

CAPC doesn't say anything about locking it in our vault for 10 days, it says "no firearms shall be delivered"

26815. No firearm shall be delivered:
(a) Within 10 days of the application to purchase, or, after
notice by the department pursuant to Section 28220, within 10 days of
the submission to the department of any correction to the
application, or within 10 days of the submission to the department of
any fee required pursuant to Section 28225, whichever is later.

Hmmmm, I know that when you are inspected they ask to physically see all of the guns that are pending. That being said I don't remember reading anything that says no. I will be interested to see how this one plays out.

I know there was a dealer up north and I think it was Wes that started dros on a long gun that was not in his possession bit he had the serial as it was being shipped.

During the DOJ audit they told him not to do it but they couldn't cite him on anything.

I think you can do it, but I don't know that it is a good idea since if you are audited they are going to want to know where it is and they might think that you gave it to the person. Also, if there are any issues and it does not get back in time to deliver it to the person, then you would have to resubmit the DROS again.

Long gun should be ok. As long as you are sure it will be back within the 30.

Could not do it on a Rostered pistol as you would be changing it prior to delivery.

The customer is the one setting it up, he was just hoping it can be done while in DROS and I wasn't sure.

I get what he is trying to do, but personally, I would not do it due to the issues, not the law. I get that he would like to get it done sooner, but what if it comes back and there is an issue?

Yes, but if they get grumpy, you might pay the price. If there is anything else that they might just warn you about, they might decide to write up anything that they can.
