FCS System and Certified Instructor Online Verification

The FCS System is requiring all instructors to find and upload their original Training certificate to verify that they are certified to issue FCS certificates. Given that the State already has this information, it would seem that this is a case of clear redundancy and a waste of time.

So if you became in instructor several years ago and don't have your certificate, good luck in trying to convince them to look in their files to find the info and remove the 9/1/15 stop order for failure to provide the data.

Also and more important. Should you have your old certificate and scan it and send them a copy, you need to make sure that you select the proper entity that you received your certificate from (hope you saved your old application as well) because if you do not have the proper entity selected and your certificate does not match with the correct entity classification, they will deny your certification.

So word to the wise here as we are speaking from direct experience, be very careful when uploading your info to them or the morass of bureaucracy will be your fate. . . . .

Yep. Took some digging but I found it. They have the original. I only have a copy. Dated 12/01/05

Can we ding them for not retaining the proper records?

I couldn't find my original at all, but was lucky to have taken the course with someone who maintains extensive records. They emailed a copy to me the same day I, shamefully, requested it.

It only required me to enter my COE # and choose the type of entity I received my training from. It asked me to upload a document (certificate) but did not require.

Time to go look up PC to see if this submission is a requirement, on top of needing a COE...

          Well, that was easy:

          Initial
          applicants
must also submit a copy of their training certification from one of the following:
          Old dogs need not apply.

Thanks Calguns! I hadn't sold an FSC in a week or more and saw this crap and started cussing at the state in front of my customer. That seemed to work.

Got a call from the DOJ FSC folks. They are working on a fix to the problem . In a nutshell, once you select the entity that you received your training from (if you can remember) it can no longer be edited. So if your certificate is from a "comparable entity" instead of a "state authorized training facility" AND you selected "state authorized training facility" they would deny your training certificate upload and tell you it does not match and is therefore invalid.

They are waiting for someone to write code to change the field to an editable field and will let us know when it is fixed. They said they are being bombarded with the same issue from dealers, so our problem is not unique.

This is another example of not thinking things all the way through that we will run up against in a government bureaucracy. How hard is it really to edit a field to input a dropdown box. . . . . . . .

I received my HSC instructor card in 2007. I have been renewed since then and have the FSC instructor card. I selected comparable entity and the DOJ want the document uploaded. Did I select the wrong box? I got certified at El Cajon Gun Exchange or do I need to track down the certificate?

What is screwed up is that I could not find my certificate. So they emailed it to me. If you already have it then why don't they upload it.

Who emailed it to you? The DOJ? If so, who is the point of contact? You can PM me if you'd prefer.

I would need to email the DOJ as well. I can't find mine from 8 years ago. If you could send me the contact info via PM I would appreciate it.
