How long to get SOT?

I am looking in to getting my Class 2 SOT to go with our 07 FFL. Those who have them and/or went through the process recently, what is the time frame from mailing the check to getting everything approved. Just curious on the timing so I can plan everything financially. Thanks in advance.

IIRC, it is pretty fast. first thing to remember is that SOT is issued by fiscal year, not calendar year. so, you don't wnat to send in your first check until close to July 1 (might want to wait until July 1 to send it) otherwise your $500 SOT might only be good for a couple months before it expires.

yah, that should work but there have been many incidents mentioned in the NFA-centric forums about ATF getting a check in March with the paperwork indicating that the SOT is requested for the upcoming fiscal year and issuing the SOT to be valid from March to June of the current year

it usually gets fixed but the common advise was to wait until July 1 to send in that first SOT app. after that, for renewals, not an issue. but if you don't know better and think it is good Jan1-Dec31, you might be upset when you find out that your $500 SOT is only good for a couple months and it is already time for renewal.

Remember it is $500 (if you qualify for discount) from July 1st-June 30th.

It is still $500 if you file for it January 1st, May 15th or June 29th.

Mail in the paperwork now so you get a full year. Make sure you put that it is for 2015-2016 year.

It is shall issue, you will have it in a few weeks.

Just sent my check last night.
Lets hope it comes alot faster than Form 3's

They take your money fast but it can be months to get the actual SOT. They are printed in batches. Once the check is cashed contact ATF and they can email you a letter stating you are paid in full.

The day my Check was cashed I ordered a can on a form 3

Called ATF and they are not sure what happened with my form but was able to confirm that they did cash my check. They said it should go out next week but she cannot provide me an electronic copy at this time since I'm not in the system....

Check checked and 3.5 weeks later I got my tax paid paper.
