Req'd use of FFL for shipping....

I was wondering if I'm required (by law) to use an FFL to ship a handgun back to the manufacturer for warranty work or if I can send it myself direct?
    Thanks

You can send it directly to the manufacturer and they will ship it back to you. As long as the pistol isn't being replaced with a new serial number you are good to go.

Just check to make sure that the manufacturer will send it directly back to you, while legal, some won't. If they won't and they will only ship to a FFL, you will have to go through the whole DROS process and waiting period unless that FFL is the one who ships it to them.

^^ What Kemasa said... Armscor/Rock Island is one that will not ship back directly to you..had a customer that ran into an issue on that one.. he had to wait 10 more days even though he shipped it direct because the return went through me.

Thats really odd, they mustve changed their policies, unless it was an off roster pistol?

I shipped my GI to Pahrump in late 2013 for some warranty work via FedEx and they delivered it right back to my house, Signature required.

Yes, possible they changed their policy. The incident I referenced was in late 2014.

If it is warranty work, you should call them to confirm they will send it back to you. You should also ask them for a shipping label so it is sent to them on their dime, not yours.
