    dros question

Hey guys i am pretty sure i know the answer but want to know from you guys. I am selling a firearm to a budy at work. Problem is he moved recently and hasnt changed his address on his licence or for his car registration. He asked can he still dros the gun? I said im pretty sure you cant but wanted to double check.

Sorry if this seems stupid but i would rather ask and keep him out of trouble. I also wanted to know because i have never thougt about it before.

Yes, but he will need to bring a utility bill or other acceptable form of proof of address.

So he can still dros the pistol. He has a license and car registration with his old address on it. That is fine?

No he will need a second form of proof with his new address. You can look at the stickeys for the acceptable forms.

Thank you. I thought you where sol in ca if your license didnt have the new address on it. So you need your license with old address and two acceptable forms of proof of residence with bew address.

You need your valid drivers license and a second document with the correct new address on it. Just one second document.

Sigh. There is never a second proof of residency required, only primary.

If the ID does not have the correct residence address, then another document is required for proof of residency and due to Federal law, it has to be a government document. Some utilities are government.

CA does not consider a CA ID/DL to be proof of residency for handguns, which is why many think that two documents are needed, but only one is needed that is acceptable. In the case of a handgun where the ID does not have the current residence address only ONE government document is needed.

No Problem. Some of us are used to dealing with this. People move a lot out here and over half of the people in my area have PO boxes. If there was no way to DROS with out another way of proving your address half of Riverside county would be without firearms.

I agree with calling ahead if you will be using a FFL you are not familiar with, better safe than sorry.

Hope it all goes smooth for you both.

Don't give them any ideas. They could pass a law that your ID had to have you correct residence address in order to buy a firearm.

LA DWP is government, SCE is not.

You would have to look at your bills (water, gas, electric) and see if it looks like it is a government service.

                            ^^ This

Because, no matter what the real legal requirements are, *some* LGS misunderstand and have their own interpretation and/or internal policies.

1 phone call can save a lot of time.

Email is better, if possible, since then you have it on record what they said. If you call, the answer can still change when you talk to a different person.
