    Need FFL in North SD

    Hello,

I am trying to find a reliable FFL willing to assist my Marine Corps unit in special ordering some commemorative pistols. We have world out the details with SigUSA, but need an FFL before we can process the group buy. We have between 25-40 individuals ordering and are looking for an FFL near Camp Pendleton that would also be willing to forward firearms to other FFLS if the Marine ordering gets moved before pickup.

Please PM me if you are interested and we can talk prices and details.

    Thanks
    Drew

The first question is are the pistols you are trying to order on the CA roster.

If you are trying to get Sig to make "you / your group" a special commemorative pistol it most likely can not be sold in CA

Engraving makes the firearm not on the certified list, as stupid as that is. You would need to transfer the firearms first, then have it engraved (or have a replacement slide without the engraving for the transfer).

Otherwise Sig would have to add the firearms to the certified list, which costs a fair bit of money and I doubt that they would do it for a small number of firearms.

Yes, it is stupid, but that is just the way it is.

Check in with Quantico Tactical in Oceanside. Good folks to deal with.

The base outdoor store may still have their FFL at Pendleton.

The 'safe' list may cause you some problems. The last group buy I saw going around pretty much said 'Sorry Californians' and they used an FFL in Maryland.

Wow. I didn't know about the engraving issue. I'll hit up Sig and see what they say.

Yeah, the CA DOJ said that since the firearm that was tested did not have that engraving, it is not the same firearm, so it is not considered to be on the certified list. It is a bit funny since the engraving of the firearm that was tested is always different than the firearm which is being transferred since the serial number, which is engraved, is different. This aspect shows that it is not about safety at all as the engraving is not going to have any effect on the safety of the firearm. So far I have not seen such things mentioned in any of the legal cases going on.

I tried explaining this to my CO today. His head nearly exploded.

Yea let me give you a few details as I deal with this all the time doing custom work.

First Ambrose Armory would be a great place to do the transfer both the Owner and Gunsmith are retired Navy.

So as explained ANY alteration to a handgun by the manufacturer before it is sold must be tested by State of California, even engraving or coating it with Cerakote.

The normal procedure is to have the firearms DROS to everyone first then send them back to SIGARMS and have them finish the engraving, this would be if handguns are for personal use.

Unless you guys can get the Base CO (while normally it does not have to be the Base CO to prepare such a letter in this case the Base CO might be needed to allow the weapons to be classified as allowed for official use on the base while Marines are on duty) to prepare letters on official letterhead stating the handguns are handguns they will be using for official purpose, exempting them from the Safe Handgun Roster, then no other easy way of doing it.

There is other ways of doing it ..... many of them complicated and time consuming ..... so PM if you want to go over everything that could work.

                    BUT

Like I said if you guys can somehow work it out that you can show these handguns will be used or allowed to be used for official military purpose that would get you out of the mess, but I can pretty much say the chance of that happening is near zero.
