    New fingerprint scanner reader requirement

Due to the new electronic fingerprint scanner and signature pad requirements implemented by DOJ, I am shopping for the fingerprint reader and signature pad. Does anyone have any experience with these and or recommendations?

    Thanks!

So far it looks like most of the fingerprint scanners on Amazon do not have software or software support.

I see reference in question 8 of the FAQ, but nothing more.

Has anyone actually heard that this is going to be required? Why has this come up?

Read what he said. He did not say that he received a letter, but said that you will be receiving a letter.

I talked to another FFL who just had a DOJ inspection and there was no mention of that even though they look at the related records.

I wonder why others have not received that.

Just a quick look around and I'm betting the programmers are going to have their hands full with implementing a fingerprint scanner/capture function into the website.

What you all are talking about was in regard to a letter mailed by DOJ on 3-19 to all 2nd hand dealers and pawnbrokers. Let me school you about what happened. A couple years ago AB 391 was passed and requires that signature pads and livescan fingerprint readers will be required for buys and pawns. Along with a nice $300 per year fee that they are now charging us when we renew our pawnbroker license. So, the state collected our money and never did anything to actually implement AB391, so the California Pawnbrokers Association sued the state because the state collected our money, spent it, and never tried to implement AB391. Basically this letter was sent out so the state appears to be doing something to justify our $300 fee and has no way of actually collecting the data that they going to try and get from us. It will be a long time before any of this matters. So, if it were me I wouldnt rush out and buy any additional hardware just yet.

I would not buy anything until they say which devices work, if any.
