Selling Pistol, old adress on DL

So I am trying to do a PPT. I am the seller. We just purchased a home in Nov. I went to the DMV website to change the adress on my DL and Car registration. Problem is they don't send you new new cards for a change of adress. Also our utilities are in my wife's name. The range I was gong to said I couldn't do the PPT there. My question is as the seller what exactly are the requirements. Thank you guys.

I was just at Turners doing a PPT. My old address is on my DL. They just told me to write down my new address on tje paper, no forms required. I even bought my car reg to cover myself.

They said if the buyer fails, then i would need documents to get the gun back.

No problem. All you need to be the SELLER is a current Drivers License or California ID. Nothing else is needed.

Stand there and offer it up. Wait a few minutes and done deal. Oh, learn to keep your mouth shut.

The dealer needs to know the true home address and have proof thereof from the person selling the firearm in order to log it into their book. This is an ATF requirement. Auto registration updated at AAA will suffice. Please don't lie about it.

Oh I don't plan to lie. My work and gov clearance would be at stake. So I guess I'll go to the DMV Friday to get a new Reg card. Thank you.

            AAA is much easier.

Yes, the FFL needs to know the residence address for logging, but there is no requirement that proof has to be provided. If you want to insist that there is a ATF requirement that proof is required for a SELLER, then please reference the Federal Code or other official document which shows that it is actually a requirement.

Some FFLs might require proof, but that is their requirement.

OP, not an FFL, but have experienced the same thing and I refuse to pay the DMV $30+ for a new drivers license just to change my address. I went to the DMV and got a change of address form. Attached to it is a little wallet size card that you print your new address on and carry with you. The card is issued by DMV as a proof of address change and is sufficient proof for a peace office in the event you are pulled over. It should be enough proof for an FFL as long as you have a supporting utility bill.

If you're referring to the little brown card it is not acceptable for firearms and the ATF. While it's fine for the DMV and for routine traffic stops since you can fill it out yourself it is generally not accepted for ATF requirements.

Now some FFLs may accept it and once again we get back to what is said over and over. Despite what the actual requirements and laws read some FFLs will take some documents others will not so ALWAYS check with the dealer you're heading to first.

Just because your docs (as legal and right as you think they are and they might be) worked the last 15 times you purchased firearms from 15 other places doesn't mean they'll work at the next.

Ahh that's good to know, thanks for the information. I guess the DMV will end up getting their $ one way or another. Will a paper print out from the DMV with your new address along with the DL work? Or does it have to be a photo ID
With the updated address? Thanks again for the info.

The Driver History Info printout I believe costs $5 and is fine for ATF requirements.

If any of your utilities happens to be gov. That single doc should be good enough. However, YMMV depending on the FFL you're going to. Give 'em a call. If they'll take the brown card you might as well use it.
