    Update: CA handgun list expiration

As some of us FFL's are aware, there are 796 handguns on the "Approved" list that can be sold in the State of California. There have been new models added for over a month.

**On 1/1/2016 the list of approved handguns list will expire!

Given the fact that as of 1/1/2016 no new models may be shipped to CA by manufacturers for sale in the state without the required "microstamping", notwithstanding changes in the present law, there will be no new handguns available for sale in the state...!

Perhaps the only thing we can look back on and smile is the late Senator Leland Yee doing time in prison.

So, now it is ironic that the State whittles away at the right of its citizens to defend themselves from the possible oppression of their State.

The existing rostered models can still be renewed. The roster will certainly be shorter in 2016 than it is now but the situation regarding will not be any different than now.

OP why do you think ALL the handguns will not be renewed?

Perhaps, assuming all manufacturers want to comply with Penal Code sections 32015, 32020, and 32030.
Granted, Calif. is a large market for gun manufacturers but will they want to continue to spend large sums just to meet California's every changing firearms legislation mandates?

Some will pull out like S&W but it seems that many are continuing to pay the $200 annual fee to keep their models on the roster. They don't have to comply with any of the new requirements to keep existing models, just pay their fee.

I'm not saying it's definitive, but my distributor indicates some if, not all, (based on SKU's) were available last year and hence would be renewals and not NEW production guns.

Yeah, we can pick this apart for the rest of the day. But I think you get my point...

I guess I assumed (shame on me) that if one reads between the lines in so far as:
                      1. Manufacturers continuing to revise, improve, modify and eventually eliminating ALL current models for new models making them ineligible for import to CA and
                      2. That unless the microstamping laws are overturned
we will potentially be out of the business of selling NEW handguns is short order.
Just trying to lay out a simple premise not start a war.

The mistake you made is that there is nothing significant about 1/1/2016. Everything else that you just laid out we all already know.

Due to the fact we are all busy digging ourselves out of the massive amounts of state mandated paperwork and keeping up with the court cases we will be happy to grant your request for a postponement of the war.

Without checking the Ed Brown site, that is very likely a 'similar gun already on the Roster' addition via PC 32030
