Any home based ffls in the LA/OC are?

Questions say it all. I want to buy a gun online bug the transfer fees from my LGS are $100 minimum. Pretty much kills the deals.

            ^^This^^

The tax man requires the FFL to submit sales tax. I don't know many FFL's (or any other business for that matter) that are willing to pay sales tax on something that they didn't sell. That means the buyer's on the hook for it, and the FFL has to collect it. The days of no sales tax on internet gun purchases are pretty much over.

How far are you willing to drive? Simi Valley has cheaper sales tax and there are several options.

Tbh a drive to Simi would totally negate any savings in sales tax since id have to drive there twice. I'm leaning towards the guy in Brea.

Incorrect. Sales tax can be due on a PPT if the FFL finds the buyer/seller or gets involved in the price.

Sales from a CA private party, even if it is shipped, is exempt from sales tax if it is an occasional sale and not from a business. C&R firearms are exempt from sales tax even if it is from out of state if the seller is a private party, it is an occasional sale, not from a business and the buyer has a C&R FFL.

The FFL is required to pay it, so either they violate the law by not paying it, they pay it and not collect it from the buyer (which would be VERY nice of them) or they get the money from the buyer.

So basically if I buy a c&r makarov or a gun off a private party on armslist or gunbroker, it is sales tax exempt. But if I buy regular firearm like a kahr cw9 from a commercial business like budsgunshop or psa it is subject to tax. Correct?

Yes, IF it is an occasional sale. The seller would need to write a letter to document it and your FFL needs to be aware of that. There is a letter from the BOE which I posted in regards to this.

Must it be home based? Aces Jewelry and Loan in West Covina charges $50 including DROS (if paid in cash) and probably closer to you. They're on here and everyone there is very helpful. Used them for my out of state transfers.
