    Bible - Truth or Fiction?

I see that so many visitors to this section of Calguns seems to make the charge that the Scripture in what we know as the traditional Bible is fictitious, made-up and just fantasy. Is it me or when one makes these charges, they always bring up some atheistic compiled list that has been dealt with ad nauseam?

Has there been ONE person that has investigated the claims of Scripture themselves and can sincerely reject Scripture based on a personal study of the Scripture?

I'm thinking of manuscripts, archaeology, failed prophecy...

    Anyone?

Not me. It is the inspired word of God. After the Babylonian Captivity most Jews did not return to Israel. They stayed throughout the empire. After Alexander conquered the empire he unified the language into a common Greek. Those Jews that stayed outside of Israel called the 70 top scholars to translate the Hebrew to the common Greek. Known now as the Septuagint. The New Testament is written in the same common Greek. A fluid translation of the entire Bible of both Old and New Testament in Common Greek. We have enough early manuscripts and personal letters in the first and second centuries to make an entire New Testament. This and the Dead Sea Scrolls show no variation In the original language. There may be some variation in translation into modern language, but no rewritten variation. The Scriptures are very much intact and not open for criticism on that basis.

I had an interesting conversation with someone the other day that was (I think, if I'm understanding you correctly) similar to this. They were claiming that since the Bible was written by men, and men inherently lie, the Bible cannot be true.
However, they continued on to talk about how science disproves religion/creationism. When I asked them what they thought about the fact that scientists were people, they changed the topic and kept saying that the Bible is made up, and nobody in it can be found anywhere else in historical documents.

I pretty much gave up at this point.

You were probably right to do so. If facts don't cause someone to change their minds then not much will.

You have never attacked the Scriptures on a historical or theological basis. Only on philosophical differences. I have the highest regard for you sir.

Aren't there differences or contradictions between the gospel writers regarding timelines and events in Jesus' life, as well as the teachings? Are they all written by God? Inspired by God? I would just like to get others' take on this claim.

No contradictions. Perhaps different aspects of a story from different witnesses. It does not prove what is said is untrue.

If a court stenographer records what is said, is it the words of the stenographer or the words of the one giving testimony?

There are some truth in bible regarding historical events & persons but as philosopical terms, it could be depend on one faith. It is true that a person name Jesus Christ exist but is he Son of God as stated in Bible? That's another question, which the answer will be depend on faith.

So if I posted a wiki on someone with even more impressive credentials who has authored several books in defense of Christianity, would you be so eager to read his books?
