In Matthew 12:39, Jesus said "the wicked generation will be given the sign of Jonah". Well, Jonah's tomb was just blown up today after resting there for thousands of years. Further, in Matthew 16, Jesus said again regarding "sign of the times" will be the sign of Jonah.

If you study parables, they are often "parallel" having more than one meaning simultaneously. In Matthew Chapter 16, the context is more clearly "sign of the times".

The prophet Jonah is the one swallowed by the whale for 3 days until he agreed to follow God's command to go to the city of Ninevah and preach repentance. The city surprisingly listened to him and repented.
