Where in the bible does it say...

That we should protect our own- our families and such....

I have heard it cited before by certain groups...

Thanks in advance for the help...

I just figured the part where god told Noah about building a boat and he took his fambam with him. Or when an angel told Joseph about fleeing with his Mary and Jesus before te killing of first borns. Or when you had to smear lamb blood over your entry paths so the wraiths would not come take your first born. What's with the first born thing anyway???

        My sig line for one.
Exodus 22:2 applies to theft so how much more do you suppose it would apply when it comes to human life?

OP - this paper by Larry Pratt from GOA has many points that deal with your question: http://www.gunowners.org/fs9902.htm. The bottom line is that followers of Christ have a God-given duty and responsibility to defend ourselves and others, especially our families. Hope it helps!
            Regarding the 2nd Amendment:
"...to disarm the people ― that was the best and most effectual way to enslave them." George Mason ("The Father of the Bill of Rights")

            Regarding Life and Death:
"Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." Matthew 10:28

The BIG question: "What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ?" Matthew 27:22b

Here is a link an article that has a lot of references from a Jewish perspective.
The tragic Newtown shooting has led to renewed calls for gun control by Conservative and Reform Jewish leaders, who have highlighted this as a religious issue (“As Jews, we must […]

Buy a bible and read it from front to back. Then read it again. Much needed information is in the bible.

I've appreciated most of these responses for their attention to being prepared. But I think the part of your question dealing with "your family" is also important--that is, do we have a special responsibility to our own families at the expense of others, our own friends at the expense of strangers? In an article I wrote about this entitled "Helping My Neighbor," I used 1 Timothy 5:8 and Galatians 6:10 to argue that we do have biblical priorities:

Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever (1 Tim 5:8).

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers (Gal 6:10).

An interesting article at Desiring God:
On Thursday, June 5, shortly after 3:30 in the afternoon, inside a building on the campus of Seattle Pacific University, a student named Jon Meis pepper-sprayed a stranger and tackled him to the floor. An unknown gunman had opened fire…

I don't remember the apostles killing anyone after their salvation. Wonder what they knew before their gruesome deaths?
