I would recommend that a new believer or someone who is seeking the truth start by reading the Gospel of John first, then go to Matthew, then Acts, and then Romans. This series provides the fundamentals of our faith and pretty much sums up the facts of God's divine love for man and the plan of salvation.
As an ongoing process, I read the Old and New Testaments sequentially in the morning, one chapter of each per day, then I read 5 chapters in the evening alternating between the major books in both Old and New. I also spend a lot of time with commentaries and changing versions to provide different insights into the Word.
