    Original Sin

This ought to be interesting. I was over at YT discussing OS with some people. I was a bit taken back. Do we sin because we are sinners or do we become sinners because we sin? Anything really happen to humanity as a whole because our first parents sinned?

You’re born with it. That’s why they call it, “original.” If you’re Catholic, the only person to have ever been born without the original stain of sin is Mary, and that is what is referred to as the Immaculate Concepcion. The original sin is transferred originally from Eve to Adam then to all of us.

I'm not a Catholic, so there's that, but I get your drift. Jesus, of course wouldn't be born with it. I wouldn't say that Eve transferred it to Adam either. Adam walked into it with his eyes wide open. Eve was beguiled by the serpent.

I'm amazed by the number of "believers" who deny it. I know the Eastern church is a bit touchy about Augustine's view of it all.

It was Eve who first wandered off, not being content with everything as women are want to do. But that is not the topic at hand, is it?😗

I suppose not. But what Adam's sin did or didn't do to his posterity seems to be a sticking point with many.

So, who was right? Pelagius or Augustine?

The former was considered a heretic, the latter a Doctor of the Church. Go with your gut.🙂

Eve was tricked by the serpant, And when she sinned her eyes were opened. In full knowledge of that sin, she then brought the forbidden fruit to Adam. Let than sink in a moment. She knew and she did it so that she would no be alone in sin.
Her punishment was that she would be subservient to her husband and her longing would be for him.

Sin is just an imaginary concept so they can sell you an imaginary cure

Well, I would normally say thank you to someone that is trying to be helpful, but that wouldn't be you, would it?

Sin is just another word for "evil". Do you believe that there is evil in the world?

Or, it was the fall of mankind at the garden of Eden as documented in the ancient scriptures. In a thousand years, we will know for sure won’t we?

But God in His Grace and goodness gave a relief from the burden of all our sins. That relief, that forgiveness, is in Jesus Christ the Savior.

Most of the people I was talking to would agree that something happen to us at the fall of Adam, I don't think I was talking to any Eastern Orthodox. But where it really hit the fan was the idea that we are held guilty of Adams first sin. There are 2 parts to OS and there are many in Christian land who vehemently deny the 2nd part. They don't really have a covenantal view of the first and second Adam.

Anglicans traditionally accept Original Sin as a doctrine.

“Article IX. Of Original Or Birth-Sin

ORIGINAL Sin standeth not in the following of Adam, (as the Pelagians do vainly talk) but it is the fault and corruption of the Nature of every man, that naturally is ingendered of the offspring of Adam; whereby man is very far gone from original righteousness, and is of his own nature inclined to evil, so that the flesh lusteth always contrary to the spirit; and therefore in every person born into this world, it deserveth God's wrath and damnation. And this infection of nature doth remain, yea in them that are regenerated; whereby the lust of the flesh, called in the Greek, "Phronema Sarkos", which some do expound the wisdom, some sensuality, some the affection, some the desire, of the flesh, is not subject to the Law of God. And although there is no condemnation for them that believe and are baptized, yet the Apostle doth confess, that concupiscence and lust hath of itself the nature of sin.”
