Is this song popular at your church?
I don't get it. To me it's theologically vacuous and condescending to God. But people at my church went nuts over this song, bellowing these lazy lyrics.
1. "Get caught within his gaze"? What does that even mean?
2. Why would dwelling in the house of God be considered a "waste" of my hours and days?
3. The song keeps asking God what moves him. Such a lazy songwriter. Are they too lazy to read the bible or even google "what pleases God?" Here are a few verses that I found just from googling. It's not a mystery. It's laid out plainly.
Romans 12:1
Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
Ephesians 5:8-10
for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.
Colossians 3:20
Children, be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord.
Psalm 51:16-17
For You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it;
You are not pleased with burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.
Romans 14:17-18
for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. For he who in this way serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men.
Psalm 5:4
For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness;
No evil dwells with You.
4. The song foolishly asks whether it's the fragrance, laying down life or a song that we sing that would move him. C'mon, do your homework and educate the people with solid theology through the song.
I couldn't sing this song.
Move Your Heart
Song by Maverick City Music and Upper Room
… And I just wanna movе Your heart
Get caught within Your gaze
Right hеre in Your presence, God
Is where I wanna stay
Oh, just to dwell in Your house
Waste my hours and my days on You
All on You
… Is it a fragrance?
Then I'll pour my oil out
Is it a life laid down?
Then here I give my vows
… Is it a song I sing?
Then here's every melody
Just tell me what moves You
Just tell me what moves You
