    Slight change of perspective

Needing prayer for a child and was talking with a buddy from work. He said no, not prayer, belief.

Essentially, do not pray for healing, but believe in the healing that you are praying for.

That's the short version. Thanks for "listening". I just found it interesting. Maybe that's why prayers seemingly go "unanswered"? I hate the 'name it and claim it" people, but I suppose there might be something to it.

      Prayer is useless without Faith.

God asks us to pray for others. Skipping prayer and just having a belief is odd. What are you supposed to believe in, if you don't pray for it? Don't be sidetracked by your buddy from work, his advice is not consistent with the Bible.

God says .. ask... and it will be given , prayer is the best way to ask , and a prayer was sent up for the child

"...You do not have, because you do not ask." Totally agree.

            .

Many neglect prayer. Albert Richardson, writing in "The Kneeling Christian:"
            • O Lord, grant that I may do Thy will as if it were my will, so that Thou mayest do my will as if it were Thy will.

This is the tip of the iceberg so far as wise observations regarding prayer are concerned.

Ok, I never said not to pray. I am in almost constant prayer with God, as odd as that may or may not sound. I think sometimes people get so wrapped up in just saying some kind of prayer, that they forget to stand firm in belief while praying. I'm sure I have done such.

Maybe a better title should have been 'A Good Reminder'.

Your friend's view sounds like new age spiritualism. Perhaps you believe it too. But it contradicts my Christian worldview.

Christians pray to God, a person. We don't engage in just positive thinking, which is what your friend seems to be positing.

We don't believe in the healing, we believe in the God who heals.

We don't have faith in the healing. We have faith in God who heals.

                  To me that's the difference.

I ask for healing in my prayers, but I learned to add "if it is your will" after the request. An important component of prayer is aligning my will with God's will just like how Jesus prayed in Gethsemane asking the father to take the cup if it was his will.

                      That about sums it up.
