Some of these people are pretty clearly mentally not right somehow. I alway appreciated this definition of what characterizes a fanatic: "A fanatic is someone who can't change his mind, and won't change the subject!"

We are all God's children. It is God's desire that all of his children will choose to spend eternity with Him. Imagine the heartbreak you would feel if you somehow lost your child, never to see them again. Now multiply that pain by the many millions of children God will lose because they choose to reject Him.

God lays it on the heart of people to share the good news of redemption through Christ with as many people as will listen, to bring as many of His children back home to him. That's "why."
