Glide Memorial SF

i dont understand the drama, there was a big story on the local news about some rally being held by "community members" and SF politicians to fight the "hostile takeover" of the glide church. how can it be a hostile takeover if glide operates under the United Methodist Church? They are obligated to follow UMC rules and leaders... apparently United Methodist pulled all clergy from Glide and is not offering any replacements leaving the church without staffing. i am guessing this has to do with the politics of the individual church and the United Methodist organization clashing (because everything i have seen about Glide screams SF liberals with bibles). if there are any Methodists here who know what is goin on, can ya fill me in?
