Bad news / "Good News" - Lost my Mom today

Tough day here. My 95yo mom went to be with the Lord today. Amazing woman, amazing strength, but long-term heart issues, pneumonia that wouldn't go away and degenerated discs in her back kept her in the hospital, in bed, since the holidays. Finally, everything overwhelmed her. She was my best friend (not counting my wife) and we talked twice-a-day for the past several years. We developed an amazing, close relationship. She was so positive, non-judgmental and kind, that we usually laughed our way through the conversations. Losing her was the bad news.

The "good news" is that in the past week, she accepted the gospel, and of her own accord said, "I am trusting in Jesus Christ for my salvation." She was a born-and-raised, diehard, Catholic that was sure her religiosity, her regular church attendance, her baptism, her trying to be good, and her church would get her into heaven. Last summer, for the first time, while I was alone with her, she listened to the gospel and we sat at her kitchen table for an hour, talking about God's way of salvation and how that wasn't the Catholic way. She actually let me tell her that if she believed Catholic doctrine on salvation, she wasn't getting into heaven! I was amazed. It was the first time she didn't fight back! Over the months since, we had minor conversations, but last week she let my sister and brother-in-law go through the whole gospel again! It a short time after that when she made her very faint-voiced (she was weak!) profession with about all the strength she had. Then yesterday, one of my sister's pastors spent a long time with her privately. She passed this morning.

So, for all my Christian brothers and sisters, it's never too late on God's schedule. My prayer for YEARS has been, "Lord, please don't take her until you save her!" He let her live 95 years (probably just to hear me begging Him!) Pray hard and regular for your parents, siblings, children, co-workers, friends, etc.! Pray until the day that they die. Take every opportunity to witness to them - even make opportunities! God does, indeed, answer prayers.

Please pray now for her funeral in 2-3 weeks back in Ohio that I will be pastoring. Pray that God draws others with the Gospel and her testimony that this joyous son can now give!

And, for others on this board who may believe other ways of getting into heaven than what is taught in the Bible, I'd love to talk with you and pray for you.

    God bless all,
    Bill

As a Catholic I will say that you are wrong in your beliefs but glad that she found God and glad she will be in a better place.

      Bill,
God does answer prayer. Sorry for your loss. Glad to see she accepted Christ as her savior. Though it is not easy you can rest assured you will see her again. Knowing this made it so much easier when my Grandmother passed. May God give you words to speak and the He be glorified at her funeral.

Bill, Your Mother has been in your life a long, long time, for that we give praise.
I won't question your religious beliefs, your Mother took Jesus as her savior and as you, am sure she is with the Lord tonight. My belief tells me He is with you and your family. I lost my Mom many years ago, there is still a constant void in my life. Grief is the pain that never really goes away, about the time we seem OK, a word, a thought or a song comes up and the pain comes back full force. My prayers are with your Mother, you and your family. God Bless.
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

So sorry for your loss. She is dancing and praising the Lord in perfect health this moment. The pain we feel at the loss of our loved one is real. But if they knew Christ as their Saviour so is their joy, when they go home.

                Bill,
Sorry for your loss. At the same time, I see that you're rejoicing that your mom is with the Lord and that one day, you'll be reunited with her. As much as I hope for the Lord's second coming, I'm grateful for his patience.

9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9

Thanks, wordupmybrotha. Yeah, that unique Christian situation of both grieving and rejoicing!

Delayed funeral due to travel arrangements for everyone to Ohio, so still have to get to 24th to say final goodbyes with everyone else. Will be boldly preaching the gospel!

                  God bless,

@billvau, my condolences on the passing of your mother, but based on what you wrote, it appears you are at peace that you mother is with the Lord. I am dealing with a similar issue, my step-father who raised me since I was 3 years old, is in failing health and will soon be having surgery for several issues within the week. We had a heart to heart discussion this weekend about salvation. He believes in God, and believes that he will go to heaven for living a good life. I can't seem to get through to him, that he needs to accept Jesus' sacrifice as his salvation. I am glad to know that your answer to prayers regarding your mother was granted.
