    "God is my husband"

I know that God says He is a husband to is us(Is.54:5, Jer.31:32), but has anyone actually met someone who believes that? So far, I have met two ladies who say that God is their Husband.
I was talking with a lady I used to date last night. We dated previously, but broke up because I got her all hot and bothered one night by kissing, though nothing happened, and she wanted to tell me that she wouldn't have sex with me. A fact I already knew.
She started out by telling me that I was a "Godly man", and I had a bit of a meltdown. I did(and still don't)not feel that I am qualified or worthy to be called a Godly man. When I objected her calling me that, she insisted, and in the space of about two minutes I went from being a Godly man to a man with no close personal relationship with God. That ended that relationship.
Scroll forward to last night. It has been a while, and I was trying to see if maybe I had over reacted. So, we talked about that, and I explained it to her, and I think she understood where I was coming from.
Then she says, "God is her Husband", and she won't cheat on Him because He does all kinds of things for her. She will stay with Him, until He hands her off to a man. This was her way of telling me that she wouldn't mess around before marriage..................a fact I already knew.
This is now the 2nd woman I have heard say this, though I have heard others refer to that. The first would come into a Christian chat room on a Christian dating site and type, "I don't need a man in my life, God is my husband".
I don't think I have ever a guy saying anything remotely similar to this.
There is a reason why I have pretty much decided to stop dating ladies from my specific religon. sigh

    They sound a bit fanatical.
Are they waiting for an epiphany from God that it is okay to be handed off?
Not trying to be flip, but really???
I'm married, but if my wife had that attitude we would have never gotten married.

You have heard the saying; "So heavenly bound that they have no worldly good"?
The only women "married" to God are nuns, and I wouldn't want to marry a nun.

And yes, I am a Christian. Born into the faith, and visibly made the choice 17 years ago.

      What's your religion?

I went on a date with a girl who didn't want to go out on a second date with me, because I didn't pray for dinner on our first date. I thought that was going overboard, but yours takes the cake.

I was giving this some thought recently about the whole "bride of Christ" as depicted in the Bible.

        Here's my conclusion.

Of all of the relationships that a person can have the family is the most intimate.
As a family we live, sleep, eat and grow together..we even see each other in our underwear
As a family we know just about every detail of one another..we've shared a lot including bedrooms and bathrooms.
We've taken vacations together, husband, wife and kids
Of all social groups the family is the tightest and most intimate...we know each other better than anyone else does.

        Now check this out..
I didn't pick my parents, I was born from them.
I didn't pick my siblings, they were born from the same set of parents I was.
My parents chose to have kids (4 in my case), they didn't know what they were getting but they had us anyway.
The relationship that I have with my parents and siblings is not voluntarily on my part. I didn't pick to be born and I didn't pick to be born into my family, this was done without my choice.

Now of all intimate family relationships only one is willfully agreed to, that of husband and wife.
The husband and wife is the only part of the family that exist by mutual agreement.
Just like the relationship we have with Christ!

The "bride of Christ" speaks more of a willful entering of a family than anything else.

Any how that's how I see it because most certainly I'm no man's wife.

Sorry didn't mean to jack the thread but the whole "I'm married to Christ" thing is probably just to help them cope loneliness or being used to reject your advances.

I remember some women like that.

They were usually pretty nuts in general which is why they were still single. They just used that kinda BS as an excuse for why they couldn't attract a man or carry on a successful relationship.

Perhaps this unusual position comes from a lack of understanding the use of the word "husband." The word husband - besides meaning a counterpart of a wife - also means to care for, to cultivate, and to manage. Some might have heard the term applied to veterinary sciences' "animal husbandry." That is not the practice of marrying animals, it is the practice of raising and caring for livestock. A term very familiar with the agrarian Semitic peoples. They would have understood, when God called Himself their husband, that He is referring to being their master and caregiver. Not their matrimonial partner.

I know a lady who threw a wedding and married Jesus. I don't really know the details. I heard about it through a mutual friend. I think she did it because she's weak in her faith and that is the only way she could keep from sleeping around. I dunno...good for her I guess.

^ Why is marrying Jesus bad? She married Mexican or Spanish guy right? Now, Jesus Christ....whole different story.

I knew a girl who was similar to that. She was straight forward and told me she wouldnt have sex unless we were married. She was right. Ad i didnt bother trying. After 8 years of marriage we are having the time of our life.

Before becoming a devoted Christian, I knew girls who said they were Christians but had no respect for their bodies...even today i hear their co-inhabiting, living the secular lifestyle and sleeping around, yet claiming their true Christians and read the Bible every day.

So, i rather have someone who said their married to Christ than some chick who is willing to open herself for anything and everything...i know its not the same as OP situation but, its just my opinion.

I see a lot of this as well, sometimes in my own past relationships. There are so many people out there who claim "I am a Christian" but don't take much of what the Bible says seriously. Granted I'm guilty too, because I've had premarital sex in most of my relationships, so I'm nobody to judge. I have only had one relationship with a girl who was adamant about not having sex until marriage (though apparently oral didn't count, which was kind of a moment for me) and I can tell you it actually felt really good to be with somebody like that, because at that time I knew I was right with God in that respect. It didn't last for other reasons, primarily because I was rebounding and it was just bad timing, but honestly the most respectable relationship I've ever been in.

I do feel that women can go overboard with being married to God. I do feel that a relationship with God and Jesus is the most important relationship to have in life, but at the same time, we were put here to find a life partner and develop a family unit, and bring God and Jesus into our marriage. God is reflected in holy matrimony between a man and woman. It's a very important bond to have, one I couldn't imagine my life without.

Saying "God is my husband" is a cop-out way to say "I'm not going to sleep with you"; and trying to make it sound spiritual.

The concept of being "married to God" isn't supported Biblically, except in the sense of the Church itself being the "bride of Christ", and this itself is allegorical.

The closest thing is in the new testament is in 1 Timothy where Paul says that young widows should remarry rather than remaining widows. He says this because many women will turn to their faith following the loss of their spouse and they'll pledge themselves to serving God. He asks that the young women remarry instead of pledging their lives to God's service, because it's far too likely that they will remarry later and break their vow to serve God. This pledge is the closest thing the Bible has to "marriage to God" and it specifically relegates it to women "above 60".

If one reads Isaiah 54, they'll see that the section isn't saying anything of the kind. The chapter is directed toward barren women who would be rejected by their husbands in that era, women who married young and regret it, and widows who've lost their husbands.

The chapter suggests that those women shouldn't feel ashamed for being barren, as they can care for and "mother" the children of others, and thus have a far greater impact. They shouldn't be ashamed of being without a husband's love or acceptance either, as God will love and accept them.

In Jeremiah, God refers to His leading of the people out of Egypt. He says that He will make a new covenant, because they broke his previous one. This upsets Him because they broke the covenant despite God being "a husband to them". God was the "husband" of the nation of Israel - in that He provided for them, protected them, and rescued them. This is similar to the allegorical statement that the church is the "Bride of Christ".
I use to be an anarchist but I quit that; there's too many rules.

With all this talk about "Jesus is my Husband" from women who may be using it to say, "no sex before marriage", I have a question.

My cameralady--a socially Conservative, evangelical Christian--and I were discussing this very point (she believed in it). I asked her if the Bible actually said this, and she wasn't 100% sure, so she read all the Gospels, looking for this bit about "no premarital sex". She couldn't find it. Her conclusion was that God indeed did not specify a prohibition against "premarital sex". Not being a Christian myself, I don't know, but since she is, and since I trust her, I'll take her word for it.

Can anybody point out where this prohibition is?

                              Yes, serious question.
