Why no sequel to "The Ten Commandments"(1956)?

Seems like it would be a no-brainer for a second epic depicting "40yrs in the wilderness" etc.

Its what I would've done rather than the much maligned recent Moses movie (what is Hollywood gonna screw up next? maybe remake the first Star Wars?)

Not exactly a Bible scholar myself.

Maybe story line not particularly suited to Big Screen?

Too hard to fellow Yul Brenner as Pharaoh? (and the whole monumental Egyptian architecture backdrops)

Personally, I've never liked any movies where everything has that Hollywood fake dirty or primitive veneer (Waterworld) so a bunch of wandering destitute Hebrews in a desert might be tricky to have any visual appeal. Might need lots of sweeping outdoor shots. God's Eye(pun intended) shots of people in rugged terrain, emphasis on effect of changing seasons while living outdoors 24/7/365 etc.
Am I a good shot!?!, YEAH I'M A GOOD SHOT!....i just got bad aim

It would be great. With modern CGI it should be inexpensive enough to make. That was a problem in the 50's. Those epic sets were very expensive.

I was thinking more hi-res nature film. Drone and even 'copter cameras are pretty cheap. Big expense might be authentic wild animals, and of course working "on location" in the outback badlands.

I'd probably watch that one. I have the original on VHS around here someplace...and the machine to play it!

Anyone care to sketch out a Big Screen-able story line? Feel free to start and stop anywhere that 'works'. (but I'd guess it would be just after the Exodus where they aren't allowed to go directly to the Promised Land, then ending when they get more or less settled, but with hints of the next problem (for the next in the series, like all movies these days)

            etc.
