Question for california LEOs

When you're at the Court House you might see some plain clothes LEO's who are armed that shouldn't be surprising. Chances are you may see a Deputy DA who's armed, wearing plain clothes, without a visible badge or anything identifying him as a LEO.

so yes he was a narc, i know he was a deputy because i know who subpoenaed him.

no badge was visible so if he had one (which I'm assuming he did) t was covered.

just thinking that its not good practice to show your gun if you are trying to conceal it. unless you are identifiable as a LEO

visible gun creating panic and man with guns calls is not my argument but is part of the reason open carry laws are gone.

but interesting to know that a LEO can open carry or unsatisfactory concealed carry a firearm without visible identification.

Department policies will differ, however my last department's policy was that the badge, when not in an identifiable uniform, be directly next to the holstered gun.

From your description, I'd gather that his would have been on his belt.

The fact that you couldn't see it doesn't mean he wasn't properly displaying it. It is there so that if other officers were to confront him over an exposed gun, they'd see the badge at the same time

Yea when I did 35 car I carried in Ben Davis and a t-shirt. My star on a string under the shirt. And sometimes my gun was "unsatisfactorily concealed." Have I ever had other cops called on me (and my team)? Heck yes! And when they came either A)i knew em or B) i did what they said and it got sorted out. According to that post I may as well have told "The Aristocrats" to a kindergarten class.

The requirement is that I have my star and make an effort to conceal it. But clothes move around. And yes I carry concealed errywurr. Well concealed as best can. Never had the cops called on me off duty. Most people don't register the muzzle of a gun on Joe Shmoe walking around

so his shirt rode up a little and likely it was unintentional just based on how you laid it out. So the notion that it was open carry or out of policy is not a valid assertion. Sure, its not good practice but he wasnt practicing...as for the panic comment...that's entirely false. I have responded to numerous suspicious persons possibly armed who have been off duty in a store and their gun was unintentionally exposed..I have also responded to gang members with gun calls with exposed guns and i didn't panic in that situation either....

What is the issue with the "forearm exposed"..?
