    expunged misdemeanor disqualifier?

I am interested in starting the application process to become a police officer. I know that certain crimes, i.e. any felonies, as well as certain misdemeanors and DUI's, are automatic disqualifiers. Back in college a few years ago I received a misdemeanor for shooting fireworks on a side alley next to my house. I was never arrested (just given a ticket on the spot and released.) The misdemeanor has since been expunged and I have no other criminal record.

I am wondering if this expunged misdemeanor may disqualify me on my application or if I should continue with the application process. Thanks for your advice and service to the community!

      I'd continue in the process.

The matter will be looked at, and reviewed. If there were no aggravating circumstances, and the issue was fully disclosed, and the issue was an isolated instance, then I very much doubt that it would be disqualifying.

Definitely list it on your PHS and note that it was expunged.

Not a big deal. Just be honest.

              Good luck in your endeavors.

I agree with all the above comments. As long as some time has gone by and you have made good decisions since you should be fine.

Did you go to court and plead to a misdo?
Just making sure this wasn't an infraction.
                      How long was probation?
What process did you go through for the expungement (infractions can also be expunged)?

I plead "no contest" to a misdemeanor. Had to pay a $500 fine and one year probation (basically the judge said as long as I didn't receive any more misdemeanors or felonies for the next year I would be able to expunge my misdemeanor after one year.)

I had to fill out some form that my local court sent to the DOJ to say that I completed a one year probation period and pay a $48 fee. I then got some papers back from the DOJ saying that the misdemeanor was expunged.
