What is the maximum age you can be to participate in exploer events? I am currently 21 and will be turning 22 in April of 2015. I am in the process of finishing my AS degree and would like to get a head start on LEO training, meet deputies within local law enforcement offices, and prepare myself for any upcoming interviews.

I currently live in Huntington Beach if it means anything."And shepherds we shall be.

Power hath descended forth from Thy hand.
That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee.
And Teeming with souls shall it ever be.

I don't know if it still exists since I've been retired awhile, but LASD had a paid Community Service Officer (CSO) program. They were not sworn, didn't carry a gun or cuffs and would handle abandoned vehicle calls, issue parking tickets IIRC and write non workable reports like burglaries.
I believe the age limit was 24, tho I might be mistaken. One of the active LASD deputies here might be able to advise if the program is still operating. You can also call one of the stations to ascertain this info. We had some good CSOs at our station and some went on to become excellent deputies.
If you can do this, it will give you an opportunity to get your foot in the door with the dept. You will get exposed to some of things deputies do (the things I mentioned above are also done by deputies). You may also decide le as a career isn't for you.
Good luck.Comment

Explorers cut off is 21, yet you could be an advisor; however, with no experience im not sure how that will work out. I was in the same boat as you, there are plenty of volunteer opportunities out there if you think outside of the box. Also, as mentioned CSO programs or other civilian occupations within agencies.Comment
