Bike Lane question...

For you traffic guys...

Just wondering about bike lanes. I see bicyclists in bike lanes passing cars on the right all the time while the car is waiting on the crosswalk or other traffic to clear so they can turn right. Usually the car has moved into the dotted portion of the bike lane and let's assume they have signaled properly...

If the car goes when the bicyclist is passing on the right who is at fault?

Bikes fault if the car was really already there... But what happens a lot in my experience is that the car pulled in front of the bike because the driver didn't adequately judge the speed or location of the bike when turning.

Also bikes are supposed to go around on the left but when I do that, it confuses and/or pisses off the rest of the drivers. It's really a can't win situation for cyclists.

Not a LEO, just a dude on a bike trying not to get killed.

I seriously think that more than 80% of (legal) drivers in this state over the age of 25 should be retested to determine their knowledge of traffic laws.

Some laws that make sense to the sensible are beyond too many drivers, and some traffic laws make no sense to many people.

That's actually a pretty decent summary... thanks for the link. A clear summary with some pictures is a good tool to have; I have had a few discussions with friends/family about this and that would have been a good link to show them.
