Hey guys, I just turned 30 and am looking to change things in my life. I'm considering to apply to either SDPD or the Sheriff's. I have a BA and a clean record, I don't want to sound like the typical mall cop but I've done security for residential areas for close to 5 years. Would you guys think it would be better to do armed security for a while then apply after some time? Again, I don't want to look like the typical mall cop who wants to play real cop.

Apply, working armed security for 5 years wont really help much. Also, as you get older, your body takes longer to heal. This will increase the chance that you may injure yourself during the academy. I worked security from age 25 to 29 and finally saw the light and was hired on. I went from making 7.50 an hour as a security supervisor to making 20 bucks an hour as a new recruit. 15 years later, I have never looked back at security work. It's time to get moving. Start a well paying career. You BA will allow you apply for POST grades faster(higher pay grade). Start applying, the process can take a long time. Get up off your A.. and apply. There is a need for good people! (retired after 32 yrs)Comment
