    Finding my first car

I sadly had to sell my high school car 12 years ago. I recently spoke to the guy I sold it to but it has been sold off many times since. Anyone have some solid ideas on how I can track it down. I have the VIN, it was a total frame off restoration 1966 El Camino. I put my heart and almost every penny I had since I was 15 into that truck but as a broke college student I had to let it go.
    Now I want it back.

I've heard the DMV can send a letter to the current owner, but they will not provide you with any information. Maybe there is an elcamino only forum that you can check to see if the current owner is a member of. Not sure if a carfax report would get you anything, but that will cost you something. Good luck with your search.

I'd also start with any El Camino club forums/car club forums in your specific area.

There are some websites that purport to allow you to search for vehicle owner info by license plate/VIN; I'm not sure how well they work though. I obviously have done alot of research on some vehicles but I always had other law enforcement databases to help me find what I was looking for.
