    Riverside SD

I wanted to ask if anyone here has any experience working for RCSD? I just got out of the Army and I didnt think I could be a LEO anymore after failing a poly back in Texas with the State Troopers there. However, a guy I met at church just happens to be a Captain with Riverside SD and he told me I should definitely throw my hat in the ring.

Anyways, so Im going to apply. I just wanted to see what current or former deputies think of the department. Is it a good organization to be a part of?

It's okay. Not bad, not great. It's considered a training department, meaning many people get hired, go through the academy, sit in the jail until they get their basic post, and then lateral somewhere else.

It used to be good because of 3%@50... but that is gone now. It's a huge department and some stations are great, others are micromanaged beyond belief. It depends on the admin assigned to the station.

If you want to know more pm me.

            voodoomedman,

Might be. Polygraphs are horribly unreliable. However, it's the pre & post-polygraph interview that might reveal what happened. If he lied on his app, his chances of getting hired anywhere have been drastically reduced.

Yeah. Too much faith is put into them. Now if a skilled examiner can get someone to admit to something that's one thing but when they have nothing other than a squiggly line because somebody is nervous and hasn't eaten all day...

Bro, don't sweat that ****.....many folks " fail" a poly which is nothing but voodoo crap in my opinion. Departments know it, the courts know it, society knows it. It's crap science.

Go apply with RSO. I hear they are hiring like gang busters right now.

At first all I saw is voodoo and thought you were talking crap about me. Lol.

Yeah just apply wherever you can and want. In the local arena often times people get to retest until they pass. I know a guy who passed on his third time. Thing is they use it at the very end to make sure there is nothing hiding they didn't already find I. Your background investigation. M
Now Feds are different. It's before actual background. So it's more of a screen out element. Hard fail and you are done for good. They don't talk to each other much though so fail in something under DHS and you can go and still have a shot under DOJ etc.

Bad people can fake it through those things. I think more good guys get screened out then bad guys do. Usually if somebody is a bad dude they will find out in a real background investigation.

Too bad I don't know you. My last trainee (trained at LASD) is now one of the Assistant Sheriff's with them. Their dept. is a good with all the training you will need to start a career. They have many areas to work, so your not stuck in one city or area forever. Good luck and just keep trying.

Pretty much this, RSD is a good department to work for however; it is turning into a very young department with most experience retiring with a huge emphasis being placed on education above all else, leading to some poor leadership. You will spend a lot of time (3-6 years) in corrections or courts, but its a 30 year career so take it for what it is. Our pay is very competitive. The days of 3 @ 50 are long gone so if you want a great pension, start looking outside of LE, be smart with your money and OVT checks and you will be just fine. Problem is most baby deps live outside their means then whine that they are broke
