I found a link with the dash cam footage(unfortunately its not the best quality..) from a September 4th incident in which a South Carolina State Trooper shot an unarmed guy during a traffic stop. I hadn't been able to find the video until recently. The trooper has been fired and charged with assault. I am going to hazard a guess that poor training/tactics will be the root cause of this shooting.

I've worked in the South and SC. as an LEO.
I saw it from both sides. I saw business excluding races with explicit signs excluding both whites and non-whites.
I also was refused service in a national chain restaurant because, at the time while working, I looked Non-White.
When I spoke to the Manager about the delay(almost 45 min wait with no other patron in line), I was subsequently seated in a closed section of the restaurant. After the waitress came up and took my order I stood up and walked out.
I hate to say this, but IMHO and experience a large part of this incident is an ingrained, cultural/race issue within SC.
Btw, I was never a traffic officer. If the Trooper didn't see the vehicle travel off private property would it still constitute a seat belt violation in CA solely operating on private lands?Last edited by AR15Man; 09-26-2014, 11:46 PM. -
I am glad to say that was not my experience in South Carolina. I spent about 6 months there on military duty. The Army post was a melting pot of different ethnicities, and we would go out in groups to Five Points or other parts of Columbia. I never really saw any racial discrimination, but then again I didn't go around looking for it either.I've worked in the South and SC. as an LEO.

Absolutely, although I think "Idiot" is a pretty strong word to use. I can see where he may have been thinking dude was coming out with a gun and he did spin quickly out of the drivers door area as well as having something in his right hand. IMO, and only basing this off the video, he was a bit premature with the trigger. Apparently enough so that he is being charged.Originally posted by Dinosaur JrRacist comments are never good coming from anyone. Anyone who has ever pushed a radio car has had a driver make a sudden furtive movement that was completely innocent but triggered that "Threat!" radar. It is a tough situation and I was lucky enough to able guess correctly.
As usual I am entirely dismissive of talking heads who have never been in that situation yet have loads of opinions about what should have been done.
The trooper guessed wrong and now he is paying for it. Thankfully the driver is not dead, and he is sure to receive sizeable compensation.
I am sure the usual race agitators will be stirring the pot in the media too.Comment

Yeah... as I have said before I could care less if I post something in here that is LEO-related but already posted in OT. I don't read 99.999999999% of the crap posted there for a reason.
Partner and I were debating whether or not he will skate on the criminal charges and solely be found civilly liable (we both agreed on the latter). I thing there is a good chance a criminal charge will stick provided that there were no other circumstances about the stop that would have lead the trooper to believe the guy was armed (stopping due to reports of an armed road rage/armed robbery/matched description of wanted parolee/etc). And if other circumstances were present; again, poor training and tactics were exhibited on the stop.Stay classy, CGF and Calguns.Originally posted by bwiese[BTW, I have no problem seeing DEA Agents and drug cops hanging from ropes, but that's a separate political issue.]Comment
