CCW Info when pulled over.

Quick questions for LEOs... If you pull an individual over for a traffic violation, will the computer tell you if that individual have a CCW (After you grab his CDL and run it)? Or does it not show up on the system?

I don't know if we have ways to run the CCW license. I know we can run the name to see if you have firearms in AFS. Just running the license doesn't show the CCW license. At least that was the way when I was on the streets. But, I left the streets in 1994. So, I don't know if anything changed.

Probably depends on the agency, and whether they choose to make this available to Deputies and Officers using the data base. I know my agency does, so if I run someone, their remarks screen will tell me if they have a CCW.

Locally, maybe. Statewide, I've never seen a system that has a statewide database of CCW's linked to DL available through a MDT. Possibly in dispatch, but it isn't in a common systems check that I have seen.

Ultimately its agency dependent what information a LEO receives when they 'run something'

I am not aware of any statewide database that covers this. Individual agencies may have their own records that can be accessed by agencies in their area.

You have to remember that the state operates several different databases.

There is no universal "system."

Each of the state databases has to be individually checked in order to gain information from it. They are not connected at the state level.

Every LE agency uses some form of dispatch system, and most of the dispatch systems are computer-aided. These systems have the capability of replicating an officer's inquiry and sending it to multiple state databases, and then consolidating the information returned back to the officer. Most systems do connect several databases in order to better serve the officer. Each dispatch system operates differently. There is no state standard.

It would be very easy for an automated system to extract the personal information from a Driver's License Number inquiry into the DMV system, and then use that data to query the Automated Firearm's System, and then return that info to the officer. In a system working that way, the officer could input just your CDL number, and learn your name, address, DOB, driving history, weapons registered to you, and if you hold a CCW.

The agency that I retired from combined the DMV Driver's License system, the State Wanted Person's system and the County's Automated Warrant System so that one inquiry would be routed to all three systems and I would learn of any information from all three with just a single inquiry. If I desired firearms information, I would have to make a separate inquiry, but that only took a few seconds.

Maybe if issued by a local city. But not if issued by a large SO. Ran a guy last week who had a CCW issued by Kern Co. sheriff and nothing at all popped up.
