Locked handgun case for retired LEO

I'm curious about the requirement to present a case and lock when purchasing a handgun (PPT). Most shops don't even ask when I show my retired credentials (X33 exemption) but Turners still wants a case and a lock with a receipt showing it was purchased in the last 30 days. When I PPT at turners, I buy a cheap lock at Walmart and then just return it for a refund when I'm done.
My ID shows CCW approved and I'm HR218 certified. So, do I need a case and lock? Really, what's the point I can carry anywhere in the country.
I've checked the search tool, but came up empty. Is there any legal standing here?
Ya, I know, I shouldn't PPT at turners.

Your ability to carry concealed does not exempt you from CA storage laws which is why they are requiring a lock with the transfer.

This. The case is a Turners thing, though I always keep it in a case during dros period. Keeps gun semi-safe from getting tossed around.

I agree. Not only is LEO bound by the law, but most department policies state you will keep your firearm properly stored when off duty. I thinks its a good idea on Turners part for liability purposes. In ca you are required to have some type of lock box, safe, container etc. One of the gun shops I usually buy from has me sign a form indicating the make and model of my safe before I can take the gun home.

It's sad this is the law and the government dictates to us "subjects" how to store my guns within the confines of my own house. The state can't even control their own houses (assembly & senate), let alone their prison system. What makes them think they can control and determine what's safe for me in my house?

Next thing ya know, they're probably gonna try to control our health care plans!

It is sad and you're not kidding. I understand why they feel they have to dictate how and where we store our firearms. Too many freak accidents with children having access to them and hurting themselves/others. I feel that keeping them hidden and making children afraid of firearms is the last thing you want to do. I would much rather have my children educated when it comes to firearms, not afraid of them. Curiosity is what leads to freak accidents.

I have a box full of gun locks.. I never use them for guns, because I store the guns in my safe. Maybe I will use the locks for fishing weight.

So is it true the CA approved cable lock is made by a company owned by Gray Davis's brother? Or is that just urban legend?

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

I gave my son a brand new cable lock that came with a brand new Glock I recently purchased. He came back downstairs literally 5 minutes later and said, "dad I just broke that lock and I didn't even try hard......AGAIN". You see, this was his "SECOND" Glock cable lock he broke in the past two months without using any tools. He just tugged a bit and it broke. He's only 12.

                  Those locks are a joke!

I don't know about everyone else, but the rules are different at each establishment I buy a gun from. I always call and ask first.

Thank You all for the input. I'll just keep buying and returning Walmart locks.

                        That's the reasonable plan.

Nobody is exempt from the lock-on-transfer requirement when transferring through a CA FFL. See also the wiki -- http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Bu...es.2C_and_Laws
