So LEO's NEVER get charged for stupid stuff

An off-duty New York State narcotics police officer cop shot two drinking pals during a struggle over his gun on a New York City street, according to reports Saturday.

Apparently, drunk NYPD detective thought it was a good idea to let another drunk person handle his handgun outside a bar..... two people wound up shot when he (probably) realized his mistake and tried to take it back from her. He is in jail and being charged.... good I say.

    it's New York,
So if that it happened to a regular citizen, I think both the shooter and the person "taking his gun away" would be in jail on some serious felony charges (drunk AND having a handgun, gun shooting two people...oh my! )
..that would probably stick and be pushed to the max sentencing with no plea deals because there were more than likely witnesses...injuries... & political gain in prosecutions.

I'm not blaming any cops one way or another. I understand that all police come from the same source as the general population.
we're all all humans and that sometimes means we do stupid things.

but I hope anyone can see that covering things up and letting people get away with abuse (not that that has ever happened.) only leads to more problems.
so I hope that's not going to be the case with this one.

" He is being charged with criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, and two counts of assault, the station said."

Actually sounds like he's facing some serious charges.

It's New York, so what? Let them talk about it on "NewYorkGuns.net" forums. This is "CALguns.net"

Understatement of the week. Not sure what more serious charges people would expect other than ADW and firearms charges...

Yeah it seems like a LEO would have to be thaaaaat stupid and negligent to get fired AND criminally charged.

Don't forget the PA cops (4 I think)who got hemmed up after they threw firefireworks at another officer and started a chase. Those guys are going to pay as well, but I am sure the usual suspects will be along soon enough to tell us that the 'blue wall' is covering up for something/someone.

I have a friend that was arrested for DUI by his own agency. He blew just over an .08 and was only a couple blocks from his house. It did not matter, he was hooked and booked into jail.\

He then lost his license and had to move close to the facility the department assigned him to, so he could ride his bike while his case was going through the system. He was also stripped of his police powers and his ID card and gun were taken.

He plead guilty to misdemeanor DUI, and had to pay a hefty fine. He is also on probation for 5 years. On top of all this, his career will never be the same. He went from a good investigative job, to working a metal detector. I don't think he was given any special treatment...

I knew a guy in my old dept. who was in the senior class ahead of me. Got a DUI case, and was thrown out of the academy. I graduated and a few months later, I bumped into him. He was now a bartender (irony). a few months down the line, I quit, he gets hired back on with the same dept. he now works there again. He would always brag that he was drinking buddies with the captain. Another guy, busted for solicitation of prostitution by undercover sheriffs. No charges were filed by DA. lost his position as k9 handler but still on the force. His dad was friends with the chief. The chief was his godfather.

Sometimes that happens, most times it is not by choice.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I washed out a few in my time as an FTO.
