    ccw storage

Since ccw has finally become available for many Ca residents, there seems to be a little confusion on both the publics and the leo's side.

    The brief:
When a ccw permit holder disarms in order to enter a restricted area--gov't bldg, etc.--and he leaves his pistol in a locked box, container, car trunk, does it have to be unloaded?

Would you hook some one up if you found a loaded pistol in a otherwise ok locked up condition?

Would a ccw make any difference?

    Thanks in advance.

I am not a lawyer, nor do I pretend or want to be one, and as such this is not any sort of legal advice.

If you are lawfully carrying a handgun on your CCW, lock it up in your vehicle (with no one else in the vehicle and you retain possession of the keys), and walk away, what kind of crime do you think you would be committing? The car can't be charged with possessing a loaded and concealed firearm. No one else is in/around the vehicle to have some level of "possession" so I don't really see what crime would be violated.

I just disarm and place my pistol in a locked container. My biggest fear has always been someone walking by right when I remove my pistol and place it in the container.

I try to always park away from others and be very cautious that no one is around or walking by.

I have to agree, I don't see a crime there with the exception of a post office, and postal police, if you ever actually see one at a post office. Now me personally I don't recommend leaving a loaded or unloaded gun in a car. It just to me, is a bad idea, probably because of all the auto burglaries I have taken over the years. I'm a bit paranoid about leaving any valuables in a car, let alone one that I won't be able to replace in the form I own it in.

I also agree with the others that its not a crime to leave it in your car so long as the car is only in your possession. I also agree that leaving it in the car unattended is a bad idea. Stolen gun=crime gun=stricter gun laws. Just my .02.

its good to hear what appears to be good leo common sense replies.

I am not leo and would rather always leave my ccw in its concealed condition on my person. I believe that is the most secure place for my weapon. However, as you all know, we are forced to disarm for certain places in order to stay within the law. Hence we use mobile lock boxes in the course of our day to comply with laws or employers company policy.
