HOW TO CARRY A RIFLE ON A MOTORCYCLE.

Hello all.

I have posted this thread on the safe/holster section, but would like to hear advice from the LEO community.

I recently purchased a Yamaha V Star 1100 (I know, not American). I ride it a lot, as my car is unavailable for use at the moment due to mechanical issues. That being said, I do like to be prepared and have a rifle nearby at all times. Is there any way (legally of course) that I could ride with a rifle mount on my motorcycle? If anyone makes them, do they lock, and are available to the civilian sector? Also, I would prefer to mount the rifle to the bike and not carry the weapon in a backpack-like rig, as it would be very uncomfortable. I live on Bouquet Canyon in Los Angeles, and those who have ridden in that canyon know its curves (imagine riding a curvy road with that rifle swinging back and forth on one's back).

Also, if anyone has already posted a thread asking about this, directing me there would be of great help.

I would go beyond what is legal and go with what is safe. You would want a hard case to protect the rifle, locked and also locked to the bike in some manner. Last thing you want is having someone run up and take it while you're stopped at a traffic light.

This is true. I do want something that will be locked onto the bike, locked in a hard case, to avoid theft and gunk getting into my muzzle. I was also wondering if those police racks were legal for civilian use. Not too protecting from the elements (however, my rifle is stainless), but does the job and is minimalist.

I ride a bobber, I should add, and minimalism is also pretty important to me.

I work at a shooting range in San Diego and I have seen riders that have a hard leather case, holster looking thing with the gun strapped somehow along the front fork muzzle pointing downward. No pics sorry.

You can the OC crowd for making it illegal to just sling it on your back and cruise down the freeway like I use to do. Now, you can still do that as long as you are not in a populated area or a GFSZ. Unfortunately, not all LEOs know that so, I would advise you to do more than the law mandates and put it in a locked container. It could be nothing more than a soft case with a little padlock and shoulder strap. Then put it across your back and ride. Of course, if you get pulled over, DO NOT take your hands off the handlebars until the officer tells you to.

Several manufacturers make lockable rifle cases with backpack style straps on them. I have a Voodoo and a couple other brands, and they will hold a couple rifles each. They are also not shaped like a rifle, so most non gun people won't have a clue you have a rifle inside.

The only problem I have with that is the rifle bag becoming a windsail on the highway. I would also like a locking case or rack permanently attached to my bike so I can keep the rifle around just in case. Kind of like having trunk gun but on a motorcycle.

I am not a LEO, but Cabelas and Bass Pro (and others) sell locking hard rifle cases for mounting on an ATV. If you can figure out how to mount this on your bobber, it might be your answer.

I think this is the most viable option I have at the moment. I will keep my eyes peeled for them.

So you're not looking to break the rifle into 2 pieces and stow it in a backpack with straps to keep it from rocking around? I'd imagine there should be a concealed carry company out there making such an item
