Here we go.... another guy that gets pulled over apparently "often" and thinks it's for no good reason. Why are cops apparently so attracted to you in the first place? What are YOU doing to get them to focus on YOU?

I can't remember the last time I got pulled over by any cop. It's been over 8-10 years and it was my OWN FAULT as well.

Type of car, color of skin, route of travel, some combination thereof.

If you're asking about me and my long ago police encounter, here's the circumstances:

        Type of car?

Mine. Bought and paid for. Complete with valid registration, all equipment working etc....

        Color of skin?

Irrelevant. (Regardless of what you see and choose to believe on TV and as spouted by the likes of Maxine Waters and Al Sharpton). By the way, the "race" issue only comes up these days when the accused himself has no valid and legally standing defense for his "offense" or "reasonable suspicion" of criminal activity. Or, when his/her attorney (undoubtedly a "pro bono" attorney at best) claims that "race" was the sole issue for the negative police encounter and "definitely not the illegal actions" of his client.

        Route of travel?

Again, relevance???? In my case 8-10 years ago, I was speeding on a "public" roadway. I deserved to get pulled over.

It is apparent now that you wasn't really asking the question as much as making an accusation though

Nope. I only responded to his original question and the way it was poised.

Not a cop myself, but from the viewpoint of average law abiding citizen. I carry pic ID and cell phone with "HOME" as first autodial #. Even if just walking down street, or riding my bicycle to corner market. I have no qualms about showing that ID to any officer that asks. And likewise, I want that info instantly available if I get my butt run over during either activity.

Citizens should always keep in mind that they don't "know" what an officer knows. Or what his motivation for the stop was. As a law abiding taxpayer, part of my tax dollars go to paying that officer to do what he is doing. For me to act all butt hurt and make his job harder is just Not Smart.

Do I fit the general description of a bad guy who just mugged an old lady in the vicinity? Maybe. The quicker he gets a few answers and determines I'm NOT the BG. The quicker he's back on the look out for the BG. That's his job.

My own last such contact with LE was similar to above. Slender guy with stubble on chin, riding old Huffy beach cruiser, wearing flannel shirt a bit ragged at sleeves, beat up baseball cap, hair in short pony. In short, I kinda sorta looked like a tweeker.

LASD Dep [I don't know] from Bellflower sub station blocks my path with car. I ask if there is a problem? [In a polite respectfull way.] He asks for ID and where I live, before getting ID. Tell him 3 blocks away, and present ID. He runs me through his puter, and thanks me for my time. [total contact time at this point, less than 2 minutes]

He chose to tell me at that time, that a lady had been knocked down, and had her purse stolen at a bus stop 1/2 mi away. By a tweeker looking dude wearing flannel shirt, baseball cap, pony tail, on a bicycle.

I thank him for his diligence, and ask him to tell two friends of mine who work Lakewood/Bellfower hello for me. He smiled, said will do, and was back to looking for BG.

Had I chosen to pull the "WTF is YOUR problem, DONUT BREATH attitude" at initial contact. Contact would have been unnecessarily prolonged for both of us and not nearly as amiable for either of us.

Life is what you make it.

According to "Off Topic" if you can not produce ID, SWAT will roll up in an MRAP with a "no knock" body cavity search warrant, deploying flash bangs and killing any dog within a 10 mile radius. Said MRAP has been retrofitted to include a shredding device to consume all of your firearms.

Actually, Pacrat summed it up pretty well. I usually always had a list of suspects in the area that were wanted for a variety of offenses. Sometimes I had a photo, sometimes I didn't. If someone fit into the description I had, and I had a name, asking for ID was the quickest way to eliminate them as a possible and we were both on our way much faster. I always had a stack of teletype crime broadcasts that had suspect descriptions on them. My job was to take crooks to jail, and I did my best to do that. I also tried to bother good guys as little as possible. A quick explanation AFTER I was done was always very helpful.

I got a verbal warning and took off speeding again. . So far, so good as I haven't been pulled over since.
