    Brass protective film

What methods do you guys use to remove the protective layer off of a new brass belt buckle? I have Flintz polish I'm looking to apply. Thanks in advance!

I've just used a little Flintz before.. I take that back, I think once I didn't have anything so I used some metal polish that I had for my motorcycles. Worked fine..

If it is a clear coat, I think acetone will do it.

boil it... I haven't noticed the thin film on the belt buckles, but for badges, boiling for several hours works!

Hoppe's gun cleaner solvent. A little of it will take care of the layer.

Thanks everyone. I boiled it with a little baking soda and it seemed to work.
