Oral Board Interview - Any Advice?

Hello all,

I have my oral board interview at the end of August for a local department.

I'd like to just hear some of your voices, opinions, and any advice if you have it. I would greatly appreciate it.

I've been researching the department and practicing answering some oral board example questions. Also I have been talking to some buddies that are well connected into the law enforcement community.

I'd love to hear from you guys on your experiences and ways I could prepare for the next steps (background investigation, polygraph, and academy).

Know the chiefs name, and how to spell it.

In addition to the above, it's always good to know some basic info of the city that you're interviewing for. Meaning that the oral board likes to see that you have a further interest in the city/department other than it's just a job. Lastly, sell yourself to them. Anything that you've accomplished that has any relevance at all, bring it up in the interview.

If you have not already done so go on a ride along and pick the officers brain. Also, most entry level positions won't have technical questions, but might have common sense or ethical scenario type questions. Make sure you have a good opening statement including education, prior work experience, military training if any etc. You also want to have a closing, you are basically a salesman selling yourself to the agency looking to make an investment. Make sure you know the agency's mission statement. Good luck!
