I took mine at the Concord Airport, years ago. I forget which academy sponsored it.Comment

OK my bad on the academy info. Hell it's been 30+ years since I was there, I did have a training Lt. tell me that it was part of the course once. I knew I should have questioned him a bit more on it. He had always been one of those patrol guys who spent more time getting out of writing paper than it would have taken to write it.Comment

If you want to show initiative buddy up with a motor or traffic guy and have him/her show you how to handle a TC and then take it upon yourself to write the report. If anything shadow the officer and write your own version then compare. I think its a good thought, but admin may not care what kind of training you put yourself through. Showing initiative to the guys and gals you work with will pay off more in the long run. Good work from cadets will spread fast throughout the department. Like it was mentioned before that class was dry and hard to stay focussed. If you are like most cops you learn by getting thrown in to it and finding your way out. Look into an extended academy where you can still work full time and attend class at night and on weekends. Its expensive, but you may be waiting forever to be sponsored. A lot of agencies are starting to hire again and there are plenty of academy graduates waiting to be picked up. Its unfortunate, but many agencies will hire a qualified applicant from outside before sponsoring someone within. Good luck to you."Common sense is not so common"Comment
